I’ve been asked this before.
“Do you believe in fate?”
And I never know how to answer quickly.
Because part of me does.
And part of me is scared to.
The comfort of destiny
There’s something comforting about believing everything is meant to be.
That heartbreak had a reason.
That missed opportunity protected you.
That delay was divine timing.
Fate gives chaos a storyline.
It makes random pain feel purposeful.
And sometimes, when life feels overwhelming, that belief feels like a soft place to land.
If it was meant to happen, then maybe I don’t have to carry the weight of every decision.
The discomfort of destiny
But here’s the part that unsettles me.
If everything is destined, then what about choice?
What about effort?
Growth?
Courage?
What about the nights you chose to try again?
The times you walked away?
The boundaries you built?
Were those written already?
Or did you write them?
I don’t want my life to be accidental.
But I also don’t want to carry the illusion that I control everything.
Maybe fate and effort coexist
Maybe fate is not a script.
Maybe it’s possibility.
Maybe doors appear but we still have to walk through them.
Maybe we meet people for a reason but we choose whether they stay.
Maybe some things are aligned.
But not automatic.
The truth I lean toward
I don’t think destiny excuses passivity.
I think it explains alignment.
Some opportunities feel natural.
Some people feel familiar.
Some decisions feel right even when they’re scary.
And maybe that’s not magic.
Maybe that’s intuition.
What I believe now
I believe life gives us moments.
But we decide how to respond.
I believe some connections feel bigger than coincidence.
But they still require effort.
I believe timing matters.
But courage matters more.
Maybe fate is not about surrendering control.
Maybe it’s about trusting that even when we don’t understand the full picture, we are not moving blindly.
And maybe destiny isn’t a fixed path.
Maybe it’s the version of ourselves we become after choosing again and again despite uncertainty.
